On this week's episode we talk with Katherine about nursing, why she started her instagram page, what her long term goals are and the works! If you haven't listened yet, listen to the episode now by CLICKING HERE.

Who is Katherine Valdes?

Katherine Valdes is Cuban-American and a woman you definitely want to meet! She always knew she wanted to be in the healthcare industry given that her father is a physician and while pursuing nursing she decided to start an instagram page as merely, a side hustle. As time went on people would ask her various questions about beauty products and skin in general so she began researching things not just for her friends but for herself as well.

What is Katherine doing now?

Katherine is currently in nursing school and is planning on becoming a nurse practitioner in the future. With her instagram page she chooses to focus on skin care and beauty mainly. More than that though, she focuses on the internal part of beauty. Katherine believes it is more than just about the outer appearance and that your outer beauty effects your inner beauty!

You know what we like to say, "if you feel good you look good and if you look good you feel good". Those kind of just go hand in hand, ARE WE RIGHT?!

What goes inside your body definitely affects the outside

What sets her apart?

Transparency! It is one of the most important things for her especially when working with skincare brands and recommending them to others. She notes that a lot of the products have ingredients nobody ever knows about. Her goal is to promote products in which you know what you're putting on your face and also to hold brands accountable.

When did you know that you wanted to go into nursing?

She always thought that she wanted to be an anthropologist, an archaeologist among others. In a nutshell, she reminds us of well, us... a forever dreamer. She has the medical professional bloodline and the more she saw how her family dealt with it the more she fell in love with science. Initially, she wanted to go to medical school and then she realized that she can do the same by using her own path. She learned that in Florida as a nurse practitioner you can work without being under a physician and be her own boss. She notes that she started a little later which also influenced her nursing route. Katherine discusses that the healthcare field is definitely not easy but when you're passionate about something, no matter how hard it is you still love it and you see that while you're going through the classes.

Dispelling Myths on instagram?

People would always ask her a bunch of questions and for advice. They wanted to know if certain things were true or not when it came to skincare. She wanted to find a way to share some misconceptions by doing a myth segment.

Secret Myth

Chemicals are Bad

People think chemicals are all bad for you but that's not necessarily true. Just because it was made in a lab doesn't mean it's bad and just because it's natural doesn't mean that it's good.

For example, hyaluronic acid is amazing! It is derived in animals and plants but is also altered in a lab to be used on your skin.

Future plans

Katherine wants to become an aesthetic nurse and have her own dermatology practice! Maybe one day she would develop her own skincare brand however, she knows that it's oversaturated but believes that there is a place for everyone in any space.

Secret Tip

Don't go to bed with your makeup on

Less is more aka don't get caught up in trying all these different products because sometimes keeping your routine simple is key

Favorite Skincare Line

The brand she uses no matter what is: Farmacy Beauty

The price is fair for their products, it's a clean brand that's cruelty free and has a wide range of products for every skin type

Where do you find inspo from?S

Self-help books: she loves that they keep you in check and keep your happiness in check
