Interview Tips: Virtual Edition

During this pandemic we have had to change the way we do many things, which includes how we interview. For many medical students, physicians and everybody in general, interviews have gone virtual. There are many platforms people use but these following interview tips hold true regardless of which platform you're on. If you haven't listened to the episode yet, listen now by CLICKING HERE. Then, head back over here for the show notes:

♡ Secret Tip #1: Be your TRUE self

  • Authenticity is KEY

  • It is not fair to you or those around you if you aren't being your authentic self!

  • The only way you'll know that you fit in is by being you

♡ Secret Tip #2: Have a CLEAN background

  • Make sure your background is clean with good lighting (ours would be completely white)

  • Please don't show your cluttered life (we all have those moments but you want to put your best foot forward)

  • Be presentable and professional, always

♡ Secret Tip #3: Do your Research

  • Know about the program or job you are applying for (the ins and outs)

  • You want to not only impress the place you're interviewing at but also you want to figure out if this place aligns with what you want

♡ Secret Tip #4: Dress Professionally

  • Look the part. This one is self-explanatory LOL.

  • Imagine them telling you to stand up and you're sitting with your naked bum. You never know when you will need to get up so please put some pants on. (It's funny, but it happens).

♡ Secret Tip #5: Have things to talk about

  • During your interviews you want to come prepared to talk about various things during your interviews

  • Find what makes you stand out and talk about it. Don't just mention it but get into details

  • Know your strengths and weaknesses beforehand. This way you can make sure you display them on interview day.

♡ Secret Tip #6: Whatever happens, happens

  • You will get to where you want to be no matter what

  • If you fail, try again

  • Ultimately, things fall together the way they should

♡ Secret Tip #7: Being Nervous is Normal

  • The more interviews you do, the more you will get the hang of it

  • Everyone is nervous and no matter how much you prepare you will never be 100%

  • Just go in there and do your best

Note: These tips can be used for everybody and no matter what job you are applying for. Many of these tips can even apply for in-person interviews.

Don't forget to try and make good relationships and be nice to everybody.

Finally, make a list of pros and cons for each interview early on!

We want to wish you all the BEST of LUCK and don't forget to use this as your time to
